Dear Club Members.

It is with great sadness I inform you of the passing of club member and ex race secretary Amahl Simon Haradasa.

Amahl’s membership at MH16SC began in 1997 at the age of 14 as a forward hand on the skiff “Sydney Chandlery”. From there we saw him grow and be an active club member and have a real crack at the leader board with John Wearn and Neil Jones on Jones Ray Constructions. In addition to racing skiffs Amahl volunteered his time to the Club including as Race Secretary for some years.

Amahl was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in April 2016, the same week his partner Emma Schofield  announced she was pregnant with their first child Thea, now 2 1/2 and a very happy and healthy baby girl.

Amahl’s took the happy and sad news in his stride and never showed any anger towards his terminal illness. He was in poor health for the last twelve months but still managed to stay positive.

Amahl’s passing came surrounded by family at Prince of Wales hospital around 1100hours 7 March 2019, aged 36.

Our condolences to his family and friends.
